Welcome to Fifty-Plus Lifelong Fitness' Web Site Library. The information
contained in it is compiled from some of the material and articles gathered
since our founding in 1979 on topics concerning aging, health and exercise.
This is in keeping with our Mission of improving the fitness of older
adults and promoting an active lifestyle. Many of the articles are republished
from past Fifty-Plus Bulletins and many from materials collected for
use in the Fifty-Plus Discussion Groups. Questions and Answers are taken
primarily from the popular Fifty-Plus Health Notes provided by Walter
Bortz, M.D., long time contributor to the Fifty-Plus Bulletin and author
of "We Live Too Short and Die Too Long" and "DARE To Be 100." The first
36 category listings in the Library are the same as the topic listings
for the Fifty-Plus Discussion Groups. We welcome your attendance at on
of these sessions in your area and the information listed for a particular
meeting may be useful for you as a handout at that meeting.
The objectives of the Discussion Group Program is to provide local,
self-sustaining groups that can draw upon Fifty-Plus resources
in order to bring topics of immediate relevance on health and fitness
to local communities. This is to:
- Support member interests through a forum of discussion of fitness
issues with the benefits of socialinteraction/participation.
- Invite new members to commit to a lifetime fitness through
increasing awareness of the factors in successful aging.
- Build participation in health and fitness in the community.
