At a holiday party last night I was talking to some friends who i had not seen in a number of years. At one point, we were talking about health and fitness, and the lady remarked that six years ago she had joined a gym and goes 3-4 times per week. Previously she had been over weight and not doing any consistent activity. A little over a decade ago she had cancer that was life threatening. Fortunately, she won the battle and is now cancer free. At that time her yougest son was not quite a teenager. Somee years passed and one day she mentioned to her son that maybe she should join a gym. He then told her how wooried that she would die when she had the cancer but didn't say anything but he thought it would be a good idea if she did join a gym. It was that conversation that made her think htat if she didn't take care of herselfshe might not live to see him grow, have children and maybe grandchildren. The desire to be around a long time to watch her children grow that proved to be the motivation to start going to the gym and to continue today. Of course, she feels much better physically, has significantly improved her diet, and is now longer over weight. To me the motivation that drove her is there for most of us and what a motivation it is. I certainly want as many years seeing my kids go through life as I can have. I would be interested in other stories and successes so please comment or start a new discussion.
