Thoughts and Tips On a weekly and monthly basis we add some tips and thoughts that give ideas, encouragement, messages to ponder, and assorted wisdom that we hope benefits our members and visitors. Michael Pollan, author of the brilliant book, In Defense of Food, has three rules for a sound diet:
Eat food, Mostly plants, Not too much

Keeping only these in mind is enough to transform most people’s diets. But, to make these ideas fully formed, let’s flesh them out.

Wear a pedometer. Studies have shown that wearing a pedometer will help you add to the number of steps taken each day.

Eating breakfast Four reasons to  eat breakfast – besides because your mother told you to?
1. Jumps starts your metabolism
2. blood sugar stays more stable
3. Prevents energy slumps later in the day
4. Improves overall nutrition

Walking for Exercise & Weight Loss Humor

* I have to walk early in the morning, before my brain figures out what I'm doing.
* Walking can add minutes to your life. This enables you at 85 years old to spend an additional 5 months in a nursing home at $7000 per month.
* My grandpa started walking five miles a day when he was 60. Now he's 97 years old and we don't know where he is.
* I like long walks, especially when they are taken by people who annoy me.
* The only reason I would take up walking is so that I could hear heavy breathing again.
* I joined a health club last year, spent about 400 bucks. Haven't lost a pound. Apparently you have to go there.
* I do have flabby thighs, but fortunately my stomach covers them.
* We all get heavier as we get older, because there's a lot more information in our heads
